Overview

In recent years, several labor and delivery units across Georgia have been closing, leaving many counties with few or no OB/GYN providers. Patients who are experiencing early pregnancy bleeding in these areas need to seek care from other specialties. The PRECEDE project evaluates the current landscape of early pregnancy and post-abortion care outside of OB/GYN and Family Planning settings, specifically in Emergency Departments across Georgia. The purpose of this project is to explore the organizational and individual-level factors affecting delivery of early pregnancy and post-abortion care in emergency departments across Georgia.

Methods

  • Qualitative interviews with emergency department personnel to understand the barriers and facilitators associated with providing early pregnancy care in the ED setting
